Terms of Service

Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Slate ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. Slate is a learning center management application operated by Mill Creek Learning. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

Accounts and Responsibilities

When you create an account, you are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate and complete registration information.
  • Maintaining the security of your login credentials. Do not share your password with others.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.
  • Notifying your center instructor immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

Center instructors are additionally responsible for the accuracy of student records, proper handling of parental consent, and appropriate management of staff permissions within their center.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Attempt to access data belonging to another center or another user's account.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
  • Upload malicious content or attempt to disrupt the Service's operation.
  • Use the messaging features to send spam, harassment, or inappropriate content.
  • Share or export student data in violation of applicable privacy laws (including COPPA and FERPA).

Payment Terms

Tuition payments are processed through the Service according to the schedule and rates set by your learning center. Payment processing is handled by Helcim, our third-party payment provider. By providing payment information, you authorize recurring charges as agreed with your center. Refund policies are determined by your individual center's policies.

Enrollment Cancellation

Enrollment cancellation is subject to your center's cancellation policy, which typically requires written notice (default: 30 days). Tuition continues to be charged during the notice period. Cancellation requests can be submitted through the app.

Service Availability

We strive to keep Slate available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned downtime.

Intellectual Property

The Slate application, including its design, code, and branding, is the property of Plateau Lane Studios and Mill Creek Learning. Your data remains yours — we claim no ownership of the content you create or upload. You grant us a limited license to store and process your data solely for the purpose of operating the Service.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mill Creek Learning and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid for using the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. Account deletion is subject to a 14-day grace period, after which your data is permanently removed. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practicable.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of Washington State.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. Significant changes will be communicated through the app.
